“Reading is a passport to countless adventures.” -Mary Pope Osborne
April 3 - April 9, 2022, is National Library Week. Once you become a college student, you need to know what the college library offers. These resources that are available to you can be crucial to your success. The library is also the perfect place to go when you need to find information, need a quiet place to focus and study, and it can even be a place to meet new people.
The Hocking College Library, located on the first floor of Davidson Hall, offers resources and specific support to all Hocking students. The library is open Monday through Thursday, from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The Hocking College Library has several desktop computers available with ample space and privacy to work on research projects and homework.
There are comfy sofas, overstuffed chairs, and tables of various sizes with seating throughout the library. Perfect for lounging while studying or enough room to work on group projects with classmates.
Printing is available also. Black and white copies are .05 cents each, or color copies are .25 cents. Different office tools are available for students working on projects or papers, such as a paper cutter, scissors, stapler, highlighters, and a hole punch. These items are on the work table next to the printer.
There are magazines, reference materials, and closed reserve items that students, faculty, staff, and community patrons can use while in the library. These items, unfortunately, can't be checked out.
The library is an OhioLINK member, allowing students, faculty, and staff to borrow books from any other OhioLINK library on-site or through the OhioLINK catalog. These are digital books and magazines that give patrons the ability to use their devices to read or listen to materials. Students must have their Hocking College IDs to check out materials.
Fifteen books can be checked out at once for 21 days, with the option to renew those books up to six times for students. OhioLINK books have the same checkout time and renewal unless a patron of the lending institution places that specific item on hold.
Media materials owned by Hocking College, cannot be checked out by students and must be used in the library. If a student needs specific media for a class presentation, an instructor will need to check out and pick up the media items for the student. Any media borrowed from an OhioLINK library can be checked out for seven days and has the option to renew up to three times.
Faculty and staff can borrow books from the Hocking College Library for an entire academic quarter. Books can be borrowed through OhioLINK for 42 days, with the option to renew those items up to six times. Media can be borrowed for seven days and they have three renewals.
Any community member who lives 50 miles from the Nelsonville campus can become a Hocking College Library patron by showing a photo ID and proof of residency. These patrons can borrow books for 21 days with the option to renew up to four times. OhioLINK is unavailable for community patrons.
