Hawks Women's Basketball Lose Heartbreaker at Clark State, 78-75

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—The Hocking College women’s basketball team lost a heartbreaker at Clark State Community College, 78-75, on Wednesday evening, Feb. 17.

After trailing by 10 points at halftime, the Hawks fought back to take the lead with 4:09 to play in the game, outscoring the Eagles in the second half, 42-35, but Clark State came back in the final minutes with excellent free throw shooting (14-of-18 for the game; 77.8%) to recover the lead and the eventual victory.

Sophomore point guard Jada Lazaro paced the team with 23 points, six rebounds and five big steals. Sophomore guard Peyton Campbell accounted for 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting and added three boards. Freshman guard Sasha Schostek tossed in 16 points, also on 7-of-14 shooting, and was the team’ second-best rebounder with eight. Sophomore forward Jasmine Manuel had an off-night shooting with only seven points, but was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Manuel amassed a game-high 15 rebounds.

Hocking is 0-2 for the season with the next challenge at 7 p.m. this Saturday, Feb. 20, against Bryant & Stratton College. The game will be played in North Ridgeville, Ohio.
