Hocking College's first annual Family Camp Weekend was a huge success, with 20 families camping for the weekend, visiting their students, and enjoying the surrounding area.

The weekend events were planned and organized by the Hocking College Student Life department, whose goal of providing more evening and weekend activities for students supports campus involvement, mental health support and a sense of community - all things that are tied to success in the classroom.

Families camped at Hocking’s Paul Bunyan Campground utilizing the new full-service RV hookup sites and primitive campsites. Friday evening kicked the weekend off at the campground with a cookout, bonfire, games, and music.

On Saturday, families took advantage of Hocking’s Nature Center and Robbins Crossing Historical Village, Kayaking with Adventure Pro, and hiking some of the area’s hotspots, such as Old Man’s Cave at the Hocking Hills State Park. In the evening, the school hosted a viewing of the Ohio State University Football game against Toledo in the student center.

Hocking College hopes to host a Family Camp Weekend yearly because the school believes in being supportive of all its students. These types of events help students make a smoother transition to college and can help ease homesickness, while providing a fun and engaging way for students to spend more time with their friends and family during the school year.
