Glassdoor recently released an article containing a list of the 25 highest paying jobs in America, some of which students can receive training for in Hocking College’s Computer Science programs.

What is Glassdoor?

Founded in 2007 and headquartered in California, Glassdoor is a job and recruiting website. In addition to millions of available job postings, Glassdoor provides visitors with the following information:

  • CEO approval ratings
  • Employee reviews
  • Salary reports
  • Interview reports
  • Benefits reviews
  • Office photographs

What Are Some of These High Paying Jobs?

According to Glassdoor’s list, the majority of the highest paying jobs are tech-oriented and require applicants to have a background in computer science.

In addition, Glassdoor's Economic Research Analyst, Amanda Stansell, states, “the majority of these jobs are not at risk for being replaced by the addition of automation, and often times automation is helping to assist these roles.”

Some of the positions ranked in Glassdoor’s list are:

  • Applications Development Manager • Median base salary — $104,048
  • Cloud Engineer • Median base salary — $96,449
  • Data Architect • Median base salary — $101,900
  • IT Program Manager • Median base salary — $102,969.
  • Software Architect • Median base salary — $ 105,329
  • Software Development Manager • Median base salary — $108,879
  • Software Engineering Manager • Median base salary — $107,479
  • Systems Architect • Median base salary — $100,984

How Can Hocking College Help Me Get One of These Jobs?

Hocking College currently has two computer science programs which are Website and Application Development, and Cybersecurity and Network Systems. In only four semesters, students can graduate with either an Associate of Applied Science in Website and Application Development or an Associate of Applied Science in Cybersecurity and Network Systems.

In some cases, students may need some additional training or certifications when getting a degree in this field. Hocking College can provide them with the foundation and hands-on experience they need to be considered for any one of these jobs.

What Will I Learn in Hocking College’s Computer Science Programs?

Students who enroll in the Website and Application Development program will learn the following:

  • HTML/CSS I
  • Incubator I
  • JavaScript I
  • How to construct, modify, implement, query, and maintain a data base
  • How to analyze problems
  • How to implement the development cycle
  • Job search skills
  • Entrepreneurial skills

Students who decide to pursue a degree in Cyber Security and Network Systems will learn:

  • How a computer works
  • Networking protocols
  • Security concepts
  • How to respond to a cyberattack
  • How to configure and implement a firewall
  • How to configure a Virtual Private Network (VPN)
  • How to install a secure wireless network infrastructure
