Johnson, Giles Earn All-District Recognition to Lead Hocking Hawks Basketball Honorees

The 2018-19 Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) men’s and women’s basketball awards were recently announced. Freshman guard, Azende Johnson, and sophomore point guard, Jarell Giles, were both honored as members of the All-District, Division-III First Team.

Johnson was named Division-III District Player of the Year. He completed a tremendous freshman season averaging 21.2 points per game (PPG), 6.6 rebounds per game (RPG) and 2.4 assists per game (APG), including an outstanding 47-point, school-record performance against Lorain County Community College on Nov. 10. Johnson also earned second team All-Conference and All-Freshman Team from the OCCAC coaches.

Giles completed his sophomore year averaging 14.8 PPG, 1.8 RPG and 1.8 APG. He registered four consecutive games with at least 22 points between Jan. 16-26.

Sophomore guard Shanyce Cabrales was the sole representative for the women’s basketball team, earning an All-Conference Honorable Mention.

Cabrales averaged 14.3 PPG, 3.3 RPG and 1.5 APG, including a 31-point explosion in the win over Appalachian Bible College on Dec. 11.
