Lady Hawks Falls To Clark State, 71-45

The Hocking College Women’s Basketball Team (1-17) fell to Clark State Community College (8-15), 71-45, on Friday, February 15.

The Lady Hawks opened the game on a 10-0 run in the first 3:40. Clark State answered on a 14-1 run of its own to take a 14-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Eagles amassed 23 points to extend their lead to 39-17 at halftime.

The Eagles were led by freshman Liz Weaver who scored 19 points, recovered three rebounds, and had a steal. Sophomore Danyah Barnes added 15 points, four rebounds, three assists, a steal, and two blocks. As a team, the Eagles shot 24-of-74 (32.4%), converted eight three-pointers, and made 15-of-20 (75%) from the three-throw line. They also out-rebounded Hocking, 43-35.

The Lady Hawks were led by sophomore guard Shanyce Cabrales who scored a game-high of 21 points on seven three-pointers, collected eight rebounds, and had four assists. Freshman forward Shannon Moore added a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, plus two steals and two blocks. Freshman forward Abigail Blosser added four points, 11 rebounds, and a steal.

The final home game of the season for the Lady Hawks is Saturday, February 23, when they host Bryant & Stratton (OH). Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. in the Hocking College Student Center.
