Hocking College Men’s Basketball Team (5-10) came up with a big second half comeback against Owens Community College (2-16), boosting the Hawks to a 71-67 win at home on Saturday, January 12.
Scoring was led by Hocking College’s sophomore guard, Jarell Giles, with 19 points, and freshman, Azende Johnson, led a close second with 18 points. The Hawks were able to out rebound Owens Community College (OCC) and outscored them in the second half by 19 points.
However, OCC had a strong first half with a 15-point lead at halftime (42-27). OCC freshmen, Dimarius Hill, led with 10 points in the first half, and had a game-high of 20 points.
Johnson led the second half comeback scoring 16 of his 18 points in the final 20 minutes. The Hawks finally captured the lead with 4:15 to play on a free throw by Giles. Hocking was able to maintain the lead in the final minutes with game-clinching free throws.
Their next game will be at home on Wednesday, January 16 at 7:30 p.m. against Sinclair Community College.
