If you’re interested in trying one of the craft beers brewed by Hocking College Fermentation Science students, you can join them from 4-6 p.m. every Thursday and Friday for Star Brick Brewing's Growler Nights at the Lodge. Customers will be able to purchase a 34-ounce glass growler for $6 and fill it up with their favorite Hocking College brew for $8. If you already have a growler, you can bring it in and have it filled up for about 24 cents an ounce.
The beers on tap every Thursday and Friday night are:
Already available at Rhapsody Music & Dining is Star Brick IPA (ABV: 7.1%), an amber, medium-bodied American IPA that comes in with a malty sweetness backed by a not overly bitter hop profile with fruity hop aromas.
Fermentation Science students are currently working on another beer:
“Beer is what really caused civilization to occur,” Hedin said. “Civilization and community were formed around alcohol.”
Hedin describes the lodge atmosphere as more of a community, where students from the program can mingle with the customers and talk about the beers they have crafted and the recipes they have developed.
If beer isn’t your thing, but you’d still like to try libations developed by Hocking College Fermentation Science students at the Black Diamond Distillery, two of their moonshines — Bloody Butcher and Pawpaw — are still available at some local state liquor stores.
