The Art, Design, & Marketing Program is hosting a free movie night this Friday, October 5, of the 2014 film, Big Eyes, which will take place at 5:30 p.m. in John Light Hall (room 195).

Directed by Tim Burton, the film tells the true story of acclaimed painter Margaret Keane (played by Amy Adams) who moves to San Francisco in 1958 in order to pursue a career in art after leaving her husband.

While struggling to make a name for herself, Margaret meets fellow painter, Walter Keane (played by Christoph Waltz), whom soon realizes that Margaret has the potential to become a successful artist. In particular, Keane is intrigued by her paintings which feature waif-like children with over exaggerated eyes.

When Keane offers to help sell her paintings, financial success soon follows and they end up getting marry. However, Margaret later discovers that her husband has been passing her work off as his own.

This revelation ignites a lengthy legal battle that pits Margaret against her husband, who deceived both her and her works' adoring fans.

This screening is the first of several upcoming events being sponsored by Hocking College’s Art, Design, & Marketing program.
