This Friday, November 2 there will be a free movie screening of the 2010 documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop in John Light Hall Room 195 at 5:30PM.

The focus of the film is on Banksy, an anonymous England-based street artist, vandal, political activist, film director, and graffiti artist. His most famous works include Bomb Hugger, Parachuting Rat, and Gorilla in a Pink Mask.

Banksy is approached to do a film by Los Angeles-based, French shop-keeper, Thierry Guetta, who has been filming street artists as they work. The extremely camera shy Bansky only agrees to be a part of the project under the condition that his face is never shown on screen. However, Banksy soon discovers that Guetta is clearly an amateur filmmaker and director, and decides to turn the tables on him.

Banksy decides to use Guetta’s footage to make his own movie about his new acquaintance and encourages him to consider becoming a street artist and celebrity himself.

Nominated for a 2011 Oscar for Best Documentary, Exit Through the Gift Shop also features cameos from celebrities such as Christina Aguilera, Angelina Jolie, and Brad Pitt.
