Hocking College's Computer Science Program Hosting GitHub Trainings

Hocking College's Computer Science program will be hosting a 3-part series that will introduce students to GitHub. The trainings will take place in Oakley Hall from 6-8PM on the below dates:

• Friday, November 2 — Introduction to GitHub
• Friday November 16 — GitHub for Windows
• Friday, November 30 — Giting it All Together

What is GitHub?

GitHub is a code hosting platform that allows you and others to work together on projects from different locations.

This service can also be divided into two sections: Git and Hub. Git is a tool that lets code developers keep track of revisions to their work. Hub refers to the code writing community as a whole that utilizes GitHub.

What Are the Benefits of Using GitHub?

There are several benefits to using this service, including:

• It's free to open source projects, which makes it easier to get in-depth documentation and feedback
• The integrity of your data is always assured
• GitHub’s help section and guides provide you with articles in case you need to research a particular topic
• It can increase the chances of your profile being seen by a job recruiter
• Users don’t have to learn another system to have their content inputted in a format
• It's currently one of the world’s largest coding communities and can provide your projects with unlimited exposure
• Tracks changes so you will be able to have a version history of your code
• Can integrate with common platforms like Google and Amazon, track your feedback, and highlight syntax in over 200 different programming languages
