Hocking College’s Girls Who Rock and Code Club has received confirmation that the College’s chapter of Girls Who Code will meet weekly during the summer beginning June 6 through August 1.
The Girls Who Code sessions for students in grades 3-5 will meet in John Light Hall, Room 345 from 5:30-6:30PM on Thursdays. Those interested in attending this session can register here.
The Girls Who Code sessions for students in grades 6-12 will meet at the Ohio Means Jobs Office (70 N Plains Rd., Suite C) located in The Plains. These sessions will meet from 12-1PM on Thursdays. Space for this session is limited so those interested in attending should RSVP here.

Girls Who Code is a nonprofit organization that strives to encourage girls in grades 3-12 to get into the computer science field. The goal of this organization is to redefine people’s perceptions of computer programmers and to disrupt the gender employment gap in the field of computer technology.
The organization was created by Reshma Saujani in 2012 when she noticed that computer science classes were primarily filled with boys. In response to this gender disparity, Saujani created Girls Who Code which is now sponsored by software companies like AOL, Google and Microsoft.
This organization encourages computer science teachers to be instrumental in forming Girls Who Code clubs at their schools. At club meetings mentors teach female students computing skills like programming, robotics, and web design.
Hocking College in Nelsonville, OH offers a Website & Application Development Program for those who have a passion for modern technology. Students will learn a foundational knowledge of Java, JavaScript and HTML code, as well as entrepreneurship skills that will enable them to find a job upon graduation, start their own web-app development business, or go on for their four-year degree.
