Nelsonville,OH -- The Hocking Hawks men’s basketball team opened the 2019-20 season with an impressive 108-92 home win over Ohio Christian University JV team. The Hawks received double-figure scoring from six players in the victory.
Hocking’s 108 points marked the most in the NJCAA Division lll in the opening weekend of the season and fourth-highest point total in program history. The Hawks were led by sophomore forward Elias Revelle who scored 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field, six rebounds, a steal and a blocked shot. Freshman point guard Landon Sprigler added 14 points, three rebounds, a game-high eight assists, and four steals. Freshman forward Isaiah Gambrell contributed 16 points, four rebounds and two steals. Freshman forward D’Angelo Lake added 12 points, four rebounds and two steals. Sophomore guard Donovan Saine and freshman forward Shawn Paris each tallied 10 points. Paris grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds.
As a team Hocking shot 45.1% from the field and converted 11-of-13 free-throws. The Hawks collected 34 points off of turnovers compared to 15 for OCU. Hocking was credited with 19 assists and a whopping 19 steals.
Ohio Christian University JV team shot 45.1% from the field going 32-of-71. OCU shot 37 three-pointers, making 16 of them. They were 10-of-18 from the free-throw line. OCU had 29 turnovers and managed five steals.
Hocking traveled to play Rio Grande University’s JV team on Monday night. The next home game will be on November 14th vs University of Cincinnati-Clermont with the women's game at 5:30pm and men’s game at 7:30pm in the Hocking College Student Center.
