Knight’s Perfect Night Leads Hocking Past Rio Grande JV 109-72

Rio Grande, OH — The Hocking College men’s basketball team (2-0) defeated the host Rio Grande JV team, 109-72, on Monday night (Nov. 4) behind the 21-point performance of freshman guard Miekuann Knight.

Hocking’s 109 points sits as the 4th-highest scoring game in the program’s history. Hocking is averaging 108.5 points per game after high-scoring affairs in each of their first two games which ranks them second in the nation in NJCAA Division lll.  

Knight came off the bench to lead the Hawks with a game-high 21 points. Knight was a perfect 9-of-9 from the field including one three-pointer and converted 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. He also record two rebounds, six assists, and four steals. 

Freshman forward Shawn Paris, Jr., also came off the bench to add 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting, with two three-pointers, six rebounds and a steal.

Freshman point guard Landon Sprigler added 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field. He also added a game-high 10 assists along with three rebounds and a steal.

As a team, Hocking shot 52.7% on 48-of-91 from the field, going 6-of-17 from three-point range and 7-of-11 from the free-throw line. Hocking grabbed 52 rebounds and gave out 27 assists while recording 19 steals and a block. 

Rio Grande shot 27-of-65 for 41.5% from the field and 7-of-30 from three-point range. The Red Storm was 11-of-20 (55%) from the free-throw line, recorded 28 rebounds and eight steals while turning the ball over 25 times. 

Hocking will travel this weekend to Youngwood, PA to participate in the Westmoreland Tip-Off Tournament. The next home game will be on Thursday, November 14 vs. Cincinnati Clermont University. It a men’s/women's doubleheader with the women's game beginning at 5:30 and the men’s game will follow.
