Columbus, Ohio -- The Hocking College volleyball team (0-6, 0-4 OCCAC) traveled up to Columbus to face off with the undefeated Columbus State Cougars in a conference battle. The Hawks fell in straight sets, 25-9, 25-18, and 25-8.
The Hawks were led by Outside Hitter Sierra Delong, who recorded six kills on a team-high 19 attacks and added a team-high 10 digs. Middle Hitter Morgan Saulsbury added four blocks and five digs. Hocking had 16 kills, 14 assists and 40 digs.
Columbus State was led by the duo of Mason Steele and Akea Hunter who each recorded six kills. Burgin Bachman and Hunter recorded four blocks each. NJCAA National Defensive Player of the Week, Tate Rybarczyk, totaled a team-high 10 digs. Jordan Plas dished out 18 assists as well as four service aces and eight digs. The Cougars posted season-highs in attack percentage (.282) and service aces (9).
Hocking’s next match will be Friday, September 13, at 6 p.m. as the Hawks will travel to 2018 NJCAA D-III National Champion, Owens Community College. The Hawks will also play Terra State CC at 8 p.m.
