Are you a licensed practical nurse (LPN) and is interested in becoming a registered nurse (RN)? If so, you should consider Hocking College's PN2RN Transition Program.

What Are the Benefits of Becoming An RN?

After passing the state-required exam in order to become a Registered Nurse, students will have the opportunity to receive an increase in pay or promotion from their employer. Additionally, RNs have more responsibilities and take on more leadership roles within hospitals and care facilities compared to LPNs.

How Does the Admissions Process Work for Hocking College's PN2RN Program?

Anyone planning to enter the PN2RN program must meet the following requirements:

  • You must already be a LPN.
  • You must apply to Hocking College and provide verification of an active and unrestricted license as a LPN.
  • You must have successfully completed the HESI (A2) admissions exam.
  • You must pass a background check and be able to pass regular drug screenings.
  • You must provide documentation of a physical exam and be CPR certified before beginning any clinical work.

Co-Requisites?

Yes. During this program students will need to take the below courses in addition to their nursing classes:

  • ENGL-1510
  • GS-1000
  • MATH-2250
  • PSYC-1101

What Are the Learning Outcomes of the Program?

Graduates who complete Hocking College’s PN2RN program can expect the following outcomes:

  • Use the nursing process of assessment, analysis, planning, implementation, and evaluation as a basis for decision-making and developing individualized holistic plans of care.
  • Use the nursing process to collaboratively develop a plan of care with the patient and other health team members.
  • Provide empathetic and compassionate care.
  • Apply and facilitate all levels of communication with a focus on therapeutic communication in the nurse-patient relationship.
  • Develop and implement teaching plans that are specific to the patient’s level of development and understanding.
  • Use nursing knowledge, clinical reasoning, judgement, skills, and current technology to provide and promote safe nursing practice.
  • Adapt and provide specialized nursing care based on knowledge of developmental, biological, psychological, socio-cultural, and spiritual differences in patients.
  • Safely perform basic and complex clinical skills.
  • Safely administer and evaluate the effectiveness of medications and treatments.
  • Practice ethical and legal framework.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for professional growth, self-development, and the use of resources for lifelong learning.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills through the use of assertive behaviors, appropriate delegation of tasks, and supervision of assistive and/or (un)licensed personnel practical nurses.
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of community and world health issues, and the delivery of safe, effective care.
