Missed Opportunity Cost Hawks in 19-10 Loss to Arkansas Baptist

Somerville,TN — The Hocking College Hawks football team (3-3) had several opportunities against Arkansas Baptist College Buffaloes (4-4) last Saturday afternoon in a neutral site game played in Somerville,TN, but lost, 19-10.

Hocking scored first on a 25-yard run by Michael Lawrence to take a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. 

In the second quarter, the Buffaloes scored on an 85-yard touchdown pass to tie the game. The Hawks would add a field goal of 29 yards from the foot of kicker Chance Myers to take a  halftime lead of 10-7.

In the third quarter, the Buffaloes would score on a 20-yard touchdown, but the two-point try was no good. Arkansas Baptist would also add a late touchdown. That PAT try was blocked by the Hawks. 

Hocking had a great opportunity to score, but the Hawks fumbled the ball at the one yard line. Hocking also returned a kickoff for a touchdown but it was called back due to a penalty. 

Boxscore:

Arkansas Baptist recorded a total of 352 yards and and produced 17 first downs as the Buffaloes ran the ball for 20o yards. They passed for 135 yards on six catches. On defense, they recorded nine sacks and had four players with double digit tackles. They were flagged six times for 60 yards

Hocking ran 67 plays for 287 yards and gained 15 first downs. Hocking passed for 175 yards on 13 catches.  The Hawks rushed for 112 yards on 38 rushing attempts. Hocking lost one fumble, threw two interceptions, punted five times and were flagged five times for 45 yards. 

Individual Stats:

Tony White lll led Hocking in passing going 13 of 29 for 175 yards and two interceptions. Tony added 17 carries for 15 yards and a fumble. He needs 47 more passing yards to reach the 1,000 yard mark. He is also on pace to break the all-time mark in passing yards.

Ciree Carruther led the team in rushing yards with seven carries for 53 yards.

Michael Lawrence added six carries for 40 yards and a score. 

Ja’Kari Salter led the Hawks in receiving, catching two passing for 98 yards.

Trenton Bridenthal added four catches for 34 yards. 

Chance Myers went one of two in field goals, making his first one a 29 yarder and missing his second attempt just to the right. He also added an extra point. 

Tristan Storie punted five times for 194 yards. He landed two of them inside the 20. 

Andre Chandler and Elijah Burton each record an interception.

Elijah Burton led the team with nine tackles.

Chris Swann added six tackles. 

Terrance Yeoboah and D'Marco Gazaway each recorded a block.

Hocking will travel Scranton, PA to face #3 Lackawanna College this Saturday at 1pm. The game can be seen on Lackawanna College Youtube page.
