New Program Matches Employers to Qualified Veterans

Thanks to the new Talent Bridge for Veterans program, service members and veterans will have an easier time transitioning into the civilian workforce.

How Does the Program Work?

The program works by connecting potential employers with veterans who have a background in computer science through a matching engine. This process matches military and professional profiles with job postings by technology-based employers like Ingram Micro, Red River and Cisco who has a partnership with Hocking College.

These employer-to-employee matches are based on the following factors:

  • Location
  • Level of education
  • Job experience
  • Certification 

How Can I Qualify for This Program?

This program is open to transitioning service members (within 180 days of EAS), post-DD214 veterans, National Guard, Reservists or military spouses who meet the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) majoring in technology field of study
  • Associate degree with at least 2 years of related Information Technology/networking industry experience
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification (or higher)

What is Cisco Networking Academy?

Hocking College has a partnership with Cisco Networking Academy, which is an academy that's been providing programs that promote both IT and career-building skills to over 7.8 million students in 180 countries. Some of the benefits this partnership includes:

  • Cisco Networking Academy graduates have a high success rate
  • Cisco offers several certification tests that Hocking College students will be able to take at a discounted price
  • The specialized knowledge students will obtain from Cisco certifications will make them more marketable
  • Cisco’s curriculum is geared towards keeping students up-to-date on all the latest trends, tools, and techniques every IT specialist needs to be aware of
  • Cisco’s programs are designed to teach students how to develop cryptography, firewalls, intrusion detection, network analysis, wireless networking and wireless security

Where Can I Get the Training I Need to Qualify for This Program?

If you're a veteran who enjoys working with computers and is interested in obtaining the skills you need to break into the computer science industry, then perhaps you should consider one of Hocking College’s Computer Science programs.

In only four semesters, you could obtain your Associate of Applied Science in Cybersecurity and Network Systems Technology or an Associate of Applied Science in Website and Applications Development.

What Will I Learn in Hocking College’s Cybersecurity and Network Systems Technology Program?

Students who decide to pursue this degree will learn the following:

  • Networking protocols
  • Security concepts
  • How to respond to a cyber attack
  • Configuring and implementing a firewall
  • Configuring a Virtual Private Network (VPN)
  • Installing a secure wireless network infrastructure

What Will I Learn in Hocking College’s Website and Applications Development Program?

Students who enroll in this program will learn the following:

  • HTML/CSS
  • Incubator Skills
  • JavaScript
  • Entrepreneurial skills
  • Developing and using code
  • Constructing, modifying, implementing, querying and maintaining a database
  • Analyzing problems
  • Implementing the development cycle
  • Identifying a client’s needs
