If you're interested in working with children, consider enrolling in Hocking College’s Early Childhood Education program. Students can earn an Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education degree in two years and begin a career in this rewarding field.

What Will I Learn in
the Program?

Students entering this program will learn the following:

  • How to demonstrate the skills needed to proficiently assist preschool through third grade students in approaches toward learning; physical well-being and motor development; social and emotional development; language and literary; and cognitive and general knowledge of mathematics, social studies, and science.
  • How to demonstrate knowledge of and apply effective instructional and assessment strategies to assist in teaching and learning in multiple educational environments.
  • How to demonstrate an understanding of the principles of effective classroom management and guidance, including emergency procedures to ensure the safety, health, and general well-being of learners.
  • How to demonstrate an understanding of the purpose and value of programs for individuals with exceptional learning needs and the role of the paraprofessional in providing services to all children and youth with disabilities.
  • How to demonstrate an understanding of prescribed federal, district and agency policies and procedures. How to demonstrate a knowledge of media technology as it relates to the field of early childhood education.
