On June 17-19, Hocking College welcomed 17 kids to campus to participate in Safety Town.
Safety Town is an educational program that encourages safety practices in children ages 4-6 and teaches them how to stay safe in their homes, at school, and especially when they’re out in public.
Members of the Hocking College Police Department, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, fire fighters, educators, students from the Early Childhood Education Program, and other public services all took part in the program.
The kids who attended the program learned about several topics such as what to do if they find a gun or weapon, as well as the following:
In addition, this program also featured speakers, games, and two separate story time events. These story time events featured Chief Tiffany Tims of the Hocking College Police Department and Sheriff Rodney Smith of the Athens County Sheriff’s Office.
Hocking College Police Officer Brittany Eubanks has been participating in Safety Town since 2014 and has enjoyed “watching the kids who participate gain a better understanding of what it means to stay safe.”
All 17 children ended the 3-day program with a graduation ceremony on Wednesday, June 19.
