It's no surprise the cost of college has risen faster than inflation. So many students want to go to school but worry about the high price tag. Here at Hocking College, we’ll navigate the cost of college with you and your family. It doesn't have to be intimidating, and we are here to help.
Did you know that when you attend a community college before transferring to a four-year school for a Bachelor's Degree, you can save on average $28,000? Hocking College is also more affordable because we're smaller. We don't have numerous buildings sprawling a huge campus or expensive extracurriculars. And by living at home while attending school, you’ll save an additional $6,000 on room and board.
We also understand how frustrating extra hidden fees are. That's why in 2019, we instituted an "All-Inclusive" pricing model. You'll know the entire cost of your program, including all fees and textbooks before you even begin classes. There won't be any surprises!
Financial aid can help you pay for college and comes in the form of loans and or grants. Any loans you receive have to be paid back, but grants do not. There are also Federal Work-Study programs and scholarships available at Hocking College.
Financial aid can cover tuition, course fees, meal plans, residence hall fees, general service fees, parking and supplies. To determine what type of aid you qualify for and how much, you need to fill out a Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Hocking College School Code is 007598. The FAFSA form is required each year, and students are encouraged to fill it out early to take advantage of all aid available. The deadline for filing the FAFSA for the Fall 2022-2023 school year is June 30, 2022.
Subsidized and unsubsidized loans are the two types of loans available. Subsidized loans you qualify for based on financial need and are paid back without interest. An unsubsidized loan is paid back with interest. This interest begins to accrue when the loan is disbursed and is charged for the life of the loan. The Federal Pell Grant doesn't need to be paid back and is based on financial need.
There is also a Federal Work-Study Program available to those students that qualify. In order to be considered for the program, you must answer "yes" on the FAFSA form when asked if you're interested in student employment. The work-study program is based on financial needs. Students work part-time on campus to help cover some of their college expenses. If you're eligible, you can work for $2.00 more per hour than minimum wage.
At Hocking College, we have over 50 scholarships available. A small number of these require a separate application. The others are awarded on a first-come-first-serve basis.
The college also has the Hocking College Work Scholarship available. To be eligible, you must have a remaining balance of $2,500 or less for the semester after all charges and expected aid has been posted to your account. To receive this scholarship, you must agree to work in a student employment position at the college. To see if you qualify, see your financial aid representative.
