So far this summer, Hocking College has awarded more than $10,000 in Performing Arts Scholarships for singers and musicians. "I'm not finished yet!," Emily Davis, Communications and Theatre Program Manager and head of performing arts, declared.
These scholarships are awarded based on both need and merit; each requiring an audition for new students entering the performing arts. Hocking College's concert band and choir are made up of students from a variety of majors across the college.
The groups perform throughout the academic year at concerts, showcases, graduations and special events on campus.
"Last season Hocking College Singers and Band performed nine times, despite the COVID-19 pandemic,” Davis explained. “The students rehearsed and performed masked while practicing social distancing and using outdoor performance spaces on several occasions," Davis explained. She anticipates the Singers and Band to have eight performances for the upcoming academic year, with additional opportunities in the works.
Davis went on to say, "We are so proud of our performing artists and glad to be able to provide these scholarships to support their education at Hocking College! Congratulations to all of the recipients, so far!"
