Hocking College Introduces New Welding Program

by Tim Brunicardi on April 6, 2018

Beginning in summer 2018, Hocking College’s Logan Campus will begin offering an advanced welding certification program. This intense 16-week course will provide students with beginner-to-advanced training in welding, along with chances to qualify for some additional certifications.

Welder

What Exactly Is Welding?

Welding is a joining method that produces coalescence of material by heating them to the fusion temperature. This process may, or may not, use pressure or filler material.

The art of welding can be traced back to the Bronze Age (3700 BC-500 BC). What began as a means to construct rustic tools and weapons is now responsible for the creation of everything, from cars to skyscrapers and space shuttles.

What Are The Advantages Of Becoming A Welder?

  • A welding certification can be earned in a short period of time
  • Welders can work in a variety of job situations, ranging from a manufacturing plant to a construction site
  • Industry growth rates indicate that by 2024 there will be 412,298 welding positions waiting to be filled
  • Welders make a median pay of $39,390
