College can be a very exciting adventure, especially during your first year. If you have never been on your own before, there is a lot to get used to. Sometimes this responsibility can be a bit overwhelming and might cause you to lose focus on your studies, but it doesn't have to be that way. Staying focused in college takes some work, yet is well worth it in the end. Here are some tips that will show you how to stay focused in college so you can get the most out of your experience.
Set Goals
The first step to any successful plan is to start setting up some goals that you hope to accomplish in a certain amount of time. For example, consider setting a goal to get a 3.5 GPA or higher or to find an extracurricular activity that interests you. When setting your goals, always remember to be realistic, otherwise, you are setting yourself up for failure.
Create a Routine
Once you have set your goals, the next logical step to help you keep your focus is to create a routine that will help you achieve them. If you decided to go with the 3.5 GPA goal, then you would need to set up a study routine that allows you to find time to set aside for reading and any other course related work. But setting up a routine is only half the job; you also need to make sure you stick to it. Plus, you also must make time for yourself.
Get Some Fresh Air and Exercise
While you are in college to help enrich your mind, don’t forget that you also need to take care of your body. If you don’t, you might find yourself crashing sooner than later. Not only does regular exercise help control your weight, but it also helps you keep your mood in check and boost your energy.
Exercise is also a great way to stimulate your mind and body everyday. So, as part of your routine, don’t forget to lace up your sneakers and find time to enjoy a good walk/run or other fitness activity. The more you do, the better you and your body will feel.

Not only do organizations help you get involved in an activity that interests you, it also allows you to meet new people that can later become great resources. For example, upperclassmen have already gone through some of the challenges that you are
Take a Break from Social Media
This may be the hardest tip of all, but if you truly want to keep your focus, you might need to step away from your Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. But if you are like the average college student, you may need some help from checking out the latest tweet from your favorite celebrity. This might mean putting your phone or tablet out of sight while you try to focus on other things. However, if you cannot seem to part with your phone, then you may need an app that can help you limit how much time you spend on social media.
Going to college can be one of the best experiences of your life, but you also need to make sure you do what you can to stay focused. That means setting up some goals that you can stick to, planning out a routine and managing distractions such as social media.
