Move-in day is just around the corner, and you might be wondering what you need to bring. To assist you in packing and to make sure you have all the essentials, we've compiled a list of items. These things will make your dorm room more like home, and the school supplies will have you starting your year out being organized and on top of all your assignments. We even have a handy checklist you can download and print off to make packing a breeze! Please note that these items are suggestions and are up to your personal preference to bring.
Dorm Halls
The North and Downhour Halls, located on campus behind John Light and Oakley halls, have dorm rooms that are 12 by 21 feet. These halls have laundry facilities on-site that students can use for free. The dorm rooms have beds, desks, wardrobes, a drawer set, and refrigerators.
Sycamore Hall and Summit On The River are located off-campus, directly off the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway. These halls also have laundry facilities on-site and community kitchens. These rooms vary in size and come equipped with beds, desks, wardrobe, and drawer sets.
Dorm Rooms
Your dorm room is your home away from home while you're on campus. You'll want to bring everything to make it as cozy as possible. Think about decor for the walls such as posters or pictures, comforter, mattress pad, sheets, blankets, pillows, rugs, etc. Surge protectors, TV, alarm clock with a battery back-up, coffeemaker, and a trash can are also ideas.
Bathroom Supplies
North and Downhour Halls have semi-private bathrooms. Sycamore Hall and Summit On The River both have private and semi-private bathrooms. You will need a shower curtain, shower caddy, toilet paper, personal hygiene items, hair dryers, bath towels, washcloths, etc.
School/Desk Supplies
Start the year by having the proper supplies to keep you on track and organized. Keep track of class assignments and important dates by using an agenda. You also may need pens, pencils, notebooks, paper, file folders, binders, staplers, scissors, highlighters, sticky notes, rulers, a whiteboard, dry erase markers, tape, paperclips, regular markers, a backpack, laptop, desk lamp, etc.
Miscellaneous
These items you might not be thinking of will come in handy. You'll need cleaning supplies to keep your room and bathroom clean. You might also want to bring: a small set of dishes, drinking glasses/coffee mugs, travel coffee/water bottle, umbrella, cold weather clothing, laundry basket/hamper, laundry detergent, medicine in case you get sick, storage tubs, command hooks/strips, clothes hangers, first aid kit, paper towels, tissues, plastic bags, and a flashlight.
What Not To Bring
The following items are not allowed in dorm rooms: drugs/alcohol, weapons, hot plates, single burner units, sandwich makers, crock pots, instant pots, toasters, toaster ovens, waffle makers, knives longer than 3” (including kitchen knives), pets, large furniture items, refrigerator (including mini-fridges), microwave, halogen bulbs, candles, wax warmers, incense to burn (diffuse in water instead), weights (Check out the student center to exercise), and wireless routers.
