New Article Establishes Link Between Associate Degrees & Employment Opportunities

by Tim Brunicardi on March 24, 2019

A recent article published on Education Dive explored the link between students who earn associate degrees and their potential to find secure jobs and earn higher salaries.

What Was the Basis for This Article?pexels-photo-1181571

The inspiration for this article came from a new study made by the American Council on Education (ACE) that reached the following three conclusions:

  • High school graduates who pursue an associate degree are able to establish stronger personal and academic support systems for themselves if they attend community colleges.
  • Associate degree holders are more likely than those who don’t further their education after high school to have steady jobs, earn higher wages, become a home owner, be a registered voter, and/or become a volunteer.
  • More high schools are encouraging students to consider attending community colleges and visiting their campuses.

Also, the article cites data recorded by the Brookings Institute, which indicates that while 8-out-of-10 students who enter a community college have aspirations of earning a bachelor’s degree, only one-third of them actually end up transferring to a four-year college over a six-year period.
