Life After High School: Pursuing a Post Secondary Education

by Tim Brunicardi on January 22, 2018

What is Post Secondary Education?

Post secondary education is any form of education beyond high school. Technically this covers everything from technical and vocational schools, to four-year colleges, universities and graduate schools.

Are There Any Similarities Between High School & Post Secondary Education?

Yes. Both high school and all forms of post secondary education are governed by federal laws that protect students from being discriminated against in any way, shape or form. Also, they both have one primary goal: to provide students with the knowledge, tools and skills they need in order for them to become successful, functional members of society.

What are the Benefits of a Post Secondary Education?

Students who decide to further their education after high school will have the privilege of experiencing the following benefits:

  • Students will have a variety of degree programs to choose from.
  • Students will get to focus on pursuing their personal passions.
  • Students have the choice to choose between pursuing either an associates, a bachelor’s or eventually even a master’s degree.
  • Post secondary education is much more specialized than high school.
  • Students are offered the opportunity to get more hands-on experience in their chosen field.
  • It encourages students to become more independent.o-COLLEGE-STUDENT-facebook.jpg
  • Post secondary schools that have dorms offer students who are still living with their parents what might be their first chance to be on their own.
  • It exposes students to people from other countries and cultures they might not otherwise would have been introduced to.
  • Instructors will hold students to a much higher standard of conduct and performance.
  • Students have more of an opportunity to network and connect with potential employers.
  • Students learn how to market themselves to potential employers.
  • Realistically, post secondary graduates who receive either an associates, bachelor’s or master’s degree stand a far better chance of finding a good paying job than someone who only has a high school diploma.
