Homesickness can affect many college students, especially if this is their first time being away from home. Hocking College is hosting its First Annual Family Camp Weekend, welcoming families to come and camp at the college while enjoying quality time with their student. 


This fun-filled event will be September 16-18, 2022, at the Paul Bunyon Campground, 3301 Hocking Parkway, Nelsonville, OH 45764. The college has 45 RV campsites with water and electricity hookups and 254 primitive campsites. 

 

Check-in will begin at the Paul Bunyon Campground on Friday, September 16, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Immediately following will be a cookout of burgers and hotdogs for $10 per person. The cookout is free for Hocking College Students. The Golf Range, Frisbee Golf course, and Corn Hole will be available for everyone to enjoy. At 8:30 p.m. at the Fire Ring, everyone will meet the 2022 Hawks Athletic Teams, listen to music, play trivia games, and enjoy delicious s'mores.

 

Events for Saturday, September 17: 

Families can enjoy hiking at Old Man’s Cave located at 19852 OH-664, Logan, OH 43138, or hike Hocking College’s hiking trails. The park and trails are free to enjoy.

 

Families can also visit the Nature Center at Hocking College. The hands-on, interactive walk-through displays are a captivating experience for the youngest learners to environmental science professionals. Learn about Ohio wildlife, geology, plant life, and more. Interact with resident fish, reptiles, and mammals and learn while taking a stroll through our garden of native plants. The Nature Center is open on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4:00 p.m. and free for all to visit.

Families can also rent two types of adult bikes at the Nature Center during business hours. Nature lovers are encouraged to pick up a Birding Ohio's Bikeways Guide from the center before heading onto the bike path. This guide will help you identify some birds along the Hockhocking Adena Trail.

 

Robbins Crossings Historical Village is also on Campus and is open on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4:00 p.m. The village is a hub of history that reenacts what life was like in Southeastern Ohio from 1830 until 1880.

 

Tubing, Kayaking & Canoeing on the Hocking River is available through Adventure Pro, located at 1299 E Canal St, Nelsonville, OH 45764. The cost varies depending on the activity.

 

Wormburner Park Golf at the Campbell Cove Campground located at 30713 Lake Logan Rd, Logan, OH 43138. The cost varies depending on the activity.

 

Hocking Valley Scenic Train Ride offers train rides with the narration of area history and the railroad. The cost varies depending on the activity.



Rhapsody is a casual fine dining restaurant located on the beautiful Public Square in downtown Nelsonville, Ohio, open from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. At Rhapsody, you get to enjoy our cutting-edge American Cuisine featuring seasonal offerings in a relaxed atmosphere, while students from the college’s Culinary Arts, Baking, and Hospitality and Events Management programs under the watchful eye of professional chefs and managers, hone their skills needed for their professional careers. Saturday evenings usually have live music. 

 

At 7:00 p.m. in the Student Center, the college will show the Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Toledo Rockets football game. Drinks, popcorn, peanuts, and other snacks will be available for purchase.
