For many, the 4th of July is an excuse to relax in the sun, toss back a few drinks, and watch fireworks with their family and friends, but the history of Independence Day is much richer and more exciting than one might believe.
The skies of Ohio will be lighting up this week in celebration of Fourth of July – also known as Independence Day or July 4th. Fourth of July has been a federal holiday in the U.S. since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution.
What's the first thing that comes to mind when you think of July? For us, fireworks! While there are several firework displays happening this month, there's also a lot of other events taking place as well.
On June 17-19, Hocking College welcomed 17 kids to campus to participate in Safety Town.
Beginning in Fall 2019, Hocking College will launch its eSports team. The sport will involve competitive, team-based video gaming, as well as tournaments and intercollegiate play which will be done through the National Association of Collegiate eSports (NACE) and TESPA.

The 15th annual Nelsonville Music Festival will take place this Thursday, June 6 through Sunday, June 9. The site of the festival will be at the historic village of Robbins Crossing at Hocking College located at 3301 Hocking Parkway in Nelsonville, Ohio.
