Hocking College’s Cannabis Lab Technician Program Receives HLC Accreditation

On Friday, Sept. 21 Hocking College received accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) to move forward with their new Cannabis Lab Technician program. This decision gives Hocking College the distinction of being the first institution of higher learning in the U.S. to offer an associate degree program of this nature.

October Marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The purpose of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is to make people all over the world more knowledgeable about this disease. In conjunction, government agencies, medical societies, and nonprofit organizations work with survivors to raise money to fund research, educate women about the importance of getting regular mammograms, as well as detail methods of prevention and early detection.

There is currently a documented shortage of working laboratory professionals in the U.S., and according to the latest bi-annual survey performed by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), laboratory professions are seeing a range of vacancy rates from about 5% for anatomic pathology departments to roughly 9% for chemistry departments.

The Results Are In: Job Opportunities for Medical Lab Technicians are Promising

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2017 medical lab technicians made a median pay of $51,770. They also state that the outlook for this profession is up 13% and there will be 42,700 job openings in this field between 2016-2026.
