February is National Children's Dental Health Month. This observance began in 1941 to bring attention to the importance of oral health. All month long, the American Dental Association (ADA) promotes the benefits of good oral hygiene. Starting children on a dental hygiene routine as early as two years old is crucial for creating a life-long habit. Cavities are the most common disease among children. The ADA states that "45% of American children between the ages of 2 and 19 experience tooth decay in their primary or permanent teeth."

Scholarships are free money that doesn't need to be paid back. According to thinkimpact.com, 58% of students in 2020 used scholarships to help pay for school. They also estimate that there are 1.7 million dollars in scholarships available to students. But many students aren't sure how to qualify for scholarships, where to find them, or how to apply. 

Hocking College Takes the Guesswork Out of Scholarships

At Hocking, students are automatically enrolled in many different scholarships when they apply to the college. Scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. Currently, there are around 50 scholarships available.

Hocking College Announces Autumn 2021 Dean's List

In order to make the Hocking College Dean’s List, students need to be in good academic standing and achieve a term GPA of 3.5 or higher, and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.

Students Take Part in 56th Annual Hocking Hills Winter Hike

On Saturday, January 15, 2022, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Hocking Hills State Park hosted 2,485 hikers for the 56th Annual Winter Hike. The 6-mile hike follows the trail from Old Man's Cave to Ash Cave, the perfect backdrop to showcase the beauty of winter in our region.

Hawks Soar After Twelve Straight Wins

Hocking College's Men’s Basketball team is off to a 12-0 start and ranked #17 in the nation in Division II of the NJCAA. This is the best start to the season in school history. The team is averaging 96.6 points per game, which currently ranks 6th in the country. They are only allowing 63.9 points per game, good for 11th in the country, which is an average scoring margin of 32.7 points per game.

Hocking College Receives Grant to offer Scholarships for Short-Term Certificates

Beginning in January 2022, Hocking College has increased scholarship opportunities for students enrolling in one or more Short-Term Certificate programs, thanks to a grant received from the Ohio Department of Higher Education. Students enrolling in one of the eligible certificate programs and meeting the enrollment eligibility criteria will be considered for up to a $2,000 award. The award will be applied to the expenses of tuition and fees.
